CANADIAN EPISCOPAL TEAM
PRESENTS NEW CANADIAN MISSAL
TO THE HOLY FATHER

Yesterday's Vatican Bulletin noted that the Holy Father had received Edmonton Archbishop Richard Smith, President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, Gatineau Archbishop-elect Paul-Andre Durocher, Vice-President of the CCCB and Msgr. Patrick Powers, a priest of the Ottawa Archdiocese, who serves as CCCB General Secretary.

The Canadian delegation presented to Pope Benedict XVI the Number 1 presentation copy of the new Roman Missal authorized exclusively for use in Canada effective the First Sunday of Advent (November 27) 2011.

It's clear from the table that the Pope also was given a copy of the coffee table book on the new St. Joseph's Seminary in Edmonton; the table also contains a large number of rosary packets as gifts to the Canadian team.

The write-up of the meeting on the CCCB website (http://www.cecc.ca/) indicates that the collegiality of bishops with the Holy Father led to an exchange on the challenges facing the church in Canada and in the world.

THE VISIT TO ST. MARTIN DE PORRES

On Thursday, the Feast of St. Martin de Porres was the occasion for blessing the new entry way at a Mass inaugurating the celebrations of next year's Golden Jubilee of the parish's foundation (May 12, 1962) and the construction of the church in 1963.  A reception took place in the hall with musical entertainment and refreshments. Former pastors and assistant priests returned for the occasion, notably Fathers Daniel Hawkins, MSF and Arthur Ockwood, MSF.

On Saturday afternoon, there was the anticipated Lord's Day Eucharist, followed by a dinner and an exchange on the strengths and challenges of the parish; on Sunday, there was a reception after the 9 and 11 o'clock Masses.
