Prayer for Monday of the First Week of Lent

Convert us, O Lord our Saviour, and instruct our minds by heavenly teaching that we may benefit from the works of Lent. Through our Lord.

The First Sunday of Lent: Sunday Eucharist, Rite of Election

Yesterday, the First Sunday of Lent, I presided at the principal morning (10:30 and noon) Masses at the Cathedral on the First Sunday of Lent, as I had not be able to be present in the Archdiocese on Ash Wednesday.

In the afternoon, I was pleased to welcome the catechumens present for the Rite of Election and to greet, as well, those who will be received into full communion with the Catholic Church in the afternoon (photos of these will be featured tomorrow).

Then, I drove to the Syriac Catholic Cultural Centre in Laval to attend in the dinner honouing the first pastoral visitation of Mgr Joseph Habach, Eparchial Bishop of the Newark, NJ-based Eparchy of Our Lady of the Deliverance to his two Montreal-area parishes.

It was a joyful and friendly gathering--mostly conducted in Arabic--with some parts of the addresses in French or English. The Consul General of Iraq in Montreal attended, as did several Armenian and Syriac Orthodox clergy and representatives of other Catholic rites (Latin, Maronite, Melchite).
