Byward Market and an Abundant Harvest - Pope Opens Second Synod on Africa
The cathedral and my residence are right up against the Byward Market.
At this time of the year, with the fruits of the harvest present in abundance, I love wandering by the fruits and vegetable stands.
Thanksgiving Day is coming up in a week's time. In order to remind ourselves of all the fruits of the earth for which to give thanks to God, each day this week my blog will feature a photo of the colourful displays around every corner - something offered for our reflection.
Today: We give you thanks, O Lord, for various kinds of squash and gourds
2nd AFRICAN SYNOD BEGINS
Yesterday, in St. Peter's Vatican Basilica, the Holy Father inaugurated the second gathering of Bishops from Africa to deliberate on issues common to that continent and which present special challenges to the Church's evangelizing mission.
The daily sessions begin today and will conclude on October 24, with Pope Benedict XVI presiding a Closing Eucharistic Celebration on Sunday, October 25.
